Cardiac First Response (CFR) - Community Level

Intended for employees and managers who wish to gain life saving skills for use within the workplace, social, club or home situation. The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of Basic Life Support situations and their treatment.

Programme Objective

The course is designed to allow participants attain a basic understanding of Basic Life Support situations and their treatment. This course is Level 1 on the PHECC (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council) Training Standards. 

Outline Syllabus

  1. An introduction to Sudden Cardiac Death
  2. Heart Disease
  3. CPR - Adult
  4. Foreign Body Airway Obstruction - Adult
  5. AED Operation
  6. Stroke – including FAST assessment
  7. Optional:
    • Child CPR
    • Child Foreign Body Airway Obstruction
    • Infant CPR
    • Infant Foreign Body Airway Obstruction

Training Method

All participants will have hands on use of bandage dressing and the recovery position. The Heartsaver AED Course is designed to prepare people to provide CPR and AED's in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course goals include cognitive and psychomotor objectives. This course is for people with limited or no medical training who need a credential in CPR with AED. As all our instructors are frontline emergency services personnel they add real value to the course content.

The programme is delivered using a variety of tools, including PowerPoint presentations and interactive DVDs. The demonstration element is key in allowing the learner to achieve the relevant competencies and our instructors place emphasis on ensuring that learners achieve these competencies through demonstration and student practice.
